Commissioner Janet R. Sallah-Njie (Vice-Chair and Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women in Africa); the African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (AfCHPR) represented by the Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Grace Wakio Kakai; and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) which was represented by the Technical Expert, Ms. Adiam Zemenfes Tsighe. Other participants included representatives from Civil Society Organisations particularly those focusing on the rights of women and girls in Africa, regional and continental lawyers\u2019 associations, NHRIs, academic institutions and a representative from the UN-OHCHR East Africa Regional office.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main objective of the Workshop was to provide a platform for AU Human Rights Organs and key partners working on strategic litigation on women\u2019s and girls\u2019 rights to engage and explore opportunities for collaboration and action towards enhanced protection of these rights. The specific objectives were to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Reflect on laws and practices that limit women and girls from enjoying their rights to the fullest in Africa;<\/li>\n<li>Deliberate on the status and challenges of litigating on women\u2019s and girls\u2019 rights before the AU Human Rights Organs;<\/li>\n<li>Explore opportunities for strengthening strategic litigation on women\u2019s and girls\u2019 rights before the AU Human Rights Organs;<\/li>\n<li>Design strategies\/actions aimed at increasing strategic litigation on women\u2019s and girls\u2019 rights in the African Human Rights System with an aim of improving the situation of the rights of women and girls in Africa; and<\/li>\n<li>Curate strategies\/actions aimed at increasing implementation of decisions, judgements and other directives related to women\u2019s and girls\u2019 rights in the African Human Rights System.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This ideation workshop emanated from a reflection on the current substantially law number of cases within the African Human Rights organs (the AFCHPR, the AfCHPR &amp; the ACERWC) that specifically address violations to the rights of women and girls in Africa despite continuous rampant violations of such rights. Sallah-Njie (vice-pr\u00e9sidente et rapporteuse sp\u00e9ciale sur les droits de la femme en Afrique)\u00a0; la Cour africaine des droits de l&rsquo;Homme et des peuples (CAfDHP), repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par le greffier adjoint, Mme Grace Wakio Kakai\u00a0; et le Comit\u00e9 africain d&rsquo;experts sur les droits et le bien-\u00eatre de l&rsquo;enfant (CAEDBE), repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par l&rsquo;expert technique, Mme Adiam Zemenfes Tsighe. Parmi les autres participants figuraient des repr\u00e9sentants d&rsquo;organisations de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 civile, en particulier celles qui se concentrent sur les droits des femmes et des jeunes filles en Afrique, des associations r\u00e9gionales et continentales de juristes, des INDH, des institutions acad\u00e9miques et un repr\u00e9sentant du bureau r\u00e9gional de l&rsquo;UN-OHCHR pour l&rsquo;Afrique de l&rsquo;Est.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L&rsquo;objectif principal de l&rsquo;atelier \u00e9tait de fournir une plateforme aux organes des droits de l&rsquo;homme de l&rsquo;UA et aux partenaires cl\u00e9s travaillant sur des litiges strat\u00e9giques concernant les droits des femmes et des filles, afin de s&rsquo;engager et d&rsquo;explorer les possibilit\u00e9s de collaboration et d&rsquo;action en vue d&rsquo;une meilleure protection de ces droits. Les objectifs sp\u00e9cifiques \u00e9taient les suivants\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>R\u00e9fl\u00e9chir sur les lois et les pratiques qui emp\u00eachent les femmes et les filles de jouir pleinement de leurs droits en Afrique\u00a0;<\/li>\n<li>D\u00e9lib\u00e9rer sur l&rsquo;\u00e9tat et les d\u00e9fis de la d\u00e9fense des droits des femmes et des filles devant les organes des droits de l&rsquo;homme de l&rsquo;UA\u00a0;<\/li>\n<li>Explorer les possibilit\u00e9s de renforcement des litiges strat\u00e9giques sur les droits des femmes et des filles devant les organes des droits de l&rsquo;homme de l&rsquo;UA\u00a0;<\/li>\n<li>Concevoir des strat\u00e9gies\/actions visant \u00e0 accro\u00eetre les litiges strat\u00e9giques sur les droits des femmes et des filles au sein du syst\u00e8me africain des droits de l&rsquo;homme humains dans le but d&rsquo;am\u00e9liorer la situation des droits des femmes et des filles en Afrique\u00a0; et<\/li>\n<li>\u00c9laborer des strat\u00e9gies\/actions visant \u00e0 renforcer la mise en \u0153uvre des d\u00e9cisions, jugements et autres directives relatives aux droits des femmes et des filles dans le cadre du syst\u00e8me africain des droits de l&rsquo;homme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cet atelier d&rsquo;id\u00e9ation est n\u00e9 d&rsquo;une r\u00e9flexion sur le nombre substantiel d&rsquo;affaires au sein des organes africains des droits de l&rsquo;homme (CADHP, CAfDHP et CAEDBE) qui traitent sp\u00e9cifiquement des violations des droits des femmes et des filles en Afrique, en d\u00e9pit des violations rampantes et continues de ces droits.
