The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, the Coalition’s Southern Africa Focal Point in collaboration with African Human Rights Spaces, convened a training workshop on accountability and responsibility and the African human rights system in Maputo, Mozambique from 13 to14 July 2009. Thirty legal professions, particularly in public interest litigation and human rights organizations, including former commissioner at the African Commission, Vera Chirwa, from Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe attended the workshop. Included in the themes for discussion were the African Court and its relationship with the African Commission and other institutions under the African human rights system. The workshop participants called for greater advocacy for the ratification of the protocol establishing the African Court within the southern Africa.
