Lady Justice Imani Aboud Re-elected President of the African Court for another Term of Two Years

The African Court Coalition congratulates Lady Justice Imani Daud Aboud for being re-elected President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights for the second term. The Coalition also congratulates Honourable Justice Sacko Modibo from Mali who has been elected Vice President of the Court.

Honourable Lady Justice Imani Daud Aboud from Tanzania was re-elected President of the African Court for the second and final term of two years at the opening of the Court’s 69th Ordinary Session yesterday 12 June 2023.

Expressing her gratitude, Justice Imani thanked her colleagues for the unanimous re-election and the confidence they have shown in her leadership. “I am overwhelmed by the confidence my colleagues have placed in me, and I am sincerely grateful to them,” she said.

During this session, the Judges of the African Court are also scheduled to a three-day retreat between 14-16 June in Dodoma, Tanzania’s new capital, to enhance the Court’s effectiveness and improve the protection of human rights across the continent. Lady Justice Aboud said; “The Retreat will facilitate better coordination and the development of improved working methods,”
